Well, kudos anyway.

I always use the classic ringtone, and am mightily peeved that my current phone does not have that option. Not for irony, but because, as the hippies used to say, words mean something, maaan. The sound "blue means a particular color; the sound "hat" means a particular piece of clothing; and the sound "brrrriiinnnng" means someone is trying to call you. Don't mess with our shared language, dude.

I have a doorbell that buzzes. When it buzzes I have to go to the door to see who is there. I feel so...primitive...untutored...when I read about all this magical tech stuff. On the other hand, I never have to worry about the software on my doorbell becoming obsolete, because there is no software involved with my doorbell. I've lived in my current location for ten years and have spent exactly zero seconds in sub-zero cold doing maintenance on my doorbell. I think i'll stay primitive.

Each time we've purchased a new router I've had to reconnect the Ring doorbell to the network. The only way to enter the connection phase involves removing the faceplate. The faceplate is held on by a proprietary screw that I have to use the screwdriver that came with the doorbell to access. Finding that little tool every five years or so is a challenge.

I have a Simplisafe system for my house. I have never, ever had to jump through as many hoops for any sensor or camera that is part of the system. Me thinks the Ring 'spy on everything you do' camera that saves to 'the cloud' should just be chucked.\ and get a simple doorbell and stop with all the apps already.

When my doorbell rings, I levitate, because I live in a security building and by now everyone should have gotten the message that I don't even go see who it is unless they've called ahead, so the doorbell virtually never rings unexpectedly, and when it does I'm so startled I jump about three feet. What, I should wear real clothes all day just in case someone wants to borrow a cup of wine?

I use the classic door bell sound as a text notification. Was visiting friends a while back, got a text and launched their dog into an apoplectic fit. Had to change that for a few days.

Does anyone roll their own ringtones anymore? Some of mine are not socially acceptable but still keep them anyway.

Did you know you can get Ring doorbells that go INSIDE the door? At least you'd be warmer when playing Operation with the thing and hoping you don't electrocute yourself.

Our problem is with our wifi automatic sprinkler system, Rachio. After a while the old box wasn't working. When we upgraded our wifi router to one that automatically switches between 2.5 and 5, the old box became obsolete. Had to get a new box.

Our current Orbi wifi system is slow. I was going to purchase another satellite to help out... and the new one in the store won't work with our current one. I think we bought it during the pandemic. Either I find a compatibility one on eBay or bite the bullet and upgrade. We're just relocating the currently satellites to try to improve things.

"If you know, as they say, you know." Hahaha I know quite well because that is my ringtone!

Ah, Mr Lileks, if only you had included those audio clips in a manner such that I could download them. The Jetsons and Flynn? would've been great to download.

All to sell the house sooner? The new owners are going to replace the whole thing anyway.

F*** your wife (editor whispers in my ear.) You humans are weird.

Anyone I WANT to talk to has a ringtone I put in my flip phone. The Barbara is Beethoven's 5th. ExNorthender is The theme to King Kong Vs. Godzilla (The original) Schnorflepuppy is Dogara the space monster. And some other odd and/or silly sounds that tell me "Hey, I know who's calling!"

Hey, I'm audio centric in a lot of ways. It works for me. And picking the sounds was fun.
