Saving James Bond: the only solution
Please stop reimagining him
News story: they’re still trying to figure out who should play James Bond. They always float Idris Elba. Fine: make him 008. I’d pay money for that. But 007 is a Scotsman, and I can’t see Elba in a kilt.
Your ideas about Bond are bound the first movie you saw. I was lucky enough to have Connery as my introduction as a small lad, when my dad took me to see a re-release of “You Only Live Twice.” I was 11. I think he was trying to show me The Ways of the World. It made an impression, to understate the matter. It was the most awesome thing I had ever seen in my life.
The entire plot was ridiculous, when you thought about it. There was SPECTRE, the group of technocratic terrorists who had mad plots to ruin things and collect ransoms and such. They must have had tremendous overhead. You can imagine Blofeld proposing the scheme to the board of directors:
